Suspected BART Station Car Burglar Caught

An eyewitness alerted police. Service was briefly stopped at the Ashby station to prevent the suspect from boarding a train to escape.

BERKELEY, CA - Service at a Berkeley BART station was briefly suspended this morning after a witness reported seeing a person breaking into a car and then heading into the station. 

BART officials first reported the incident at the Ashby BART station on Twitter at 11:23 a.m.

After the witness report, BART officials suspended service at the station in order to help authorities catch the suspect, according to a BART watch commander.

Authorities were ultimately able to detain the suspect and are continuing to investigate the incident, the watch commander said.

Normal service at the station has since resumed.
