Two Armed Robberies Near UC Berkeley Campus

Police say the suspects in one of the robberies appeared to have a shotgun.

BERKELEY - Two armed robberies took place last week near University of California at Berkeley, campus police said.

The first was at 3:10 a.m. on Jan. 20 near Oxford Street and Hearst Avenue, where two men possibly armed with a shotgun robbed a female and male victim. The two suspects were between 18 to 25 years old and were last seen running south on Oxford Street. Neither victim was injured in the robbery, according to police.

Then at 11:20 p.m. Friday, two men attempted to use a handgun to rob four 19-year-old women in the 2200 block of Parker Street. The suspects went through the pockets of the women but did not take anything. The four women were not injured in the incident, police said. Officers described the suspects, who remain at large, as black men in their mid 20s. One man was about 5 feet 6 inches tall and the other about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. One man was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and the other was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, police said.
