A 38-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly groping several female children between the age of 9 and 13 while they were swimming at the Strawberry Canyon Pool on the University of California at Berkeley campus in August, UC police said Wednesday. Ryan Lee McCorvie, who is a UC Berkeley graduate, has been charged with seven counts of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child under the age of 14, police said.
According to court records, McCorvie was arrested on the UC Berkeley campus at about 9 a.m. Wednesday and is being held at the Berkeley Jail in lieu of $700,000 bail. He’s scheduled to be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court in Oakland at 2 p.m. on Friday. Campus police said they received a report at about 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 27 that a male suspect swam up to each victim, grabbed her leg and/or buttocks and then swam away.
Although the Strawberry Canyon Pool is on the UC Berkeley campus, it’s in a secluded area above California Memorial Stadium, where the Cal football team plays. Campus police said McCorvie is 6 foot 5 inches tall and weighs 245 pounds. They described him as having a pot belly.
