'Alien: Covenant' Knocks 'Guardians' Out Of Weekend Box Office Top Spot

LOS ANGELES, CA — Director Ridley Scott's latest entry in the "Alien" film series topped the weekend box office, narrowly beating "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," according to final figures released Monday.

"Alien: Covenant" debuted with $36.2 million between Friday and Sunday, while "Guardians" earned $34.7 million, according to box-office tracker comScore.

"Guardians" has collected $301.4 million in its three weeks in theaters.

The teen romance "Everything, Everything" debuted in third place with $11.7 million. The Amy Schumer-Goldie Hawn comedy "Snatched" earned $7.8 million to take fourth, followed by "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" with $7.2 million.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul" ($7.1 million); "The Fate of the Furious" ($3.2 million); "The Boss Baby" ($2.8 million); "Beauty And the Beast" ($2.5 million); and "How To Be A Latin Lover" ($2.1 million).
