Audiences Get Into 'Get Out' At Box Office

The film nudged "The Lego Batman Movie" into second place, after two weeks as No. one.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- "Get Out" was the most popular movie at the North America box offices this weekend, debuting with an estimated $30 million in ticket sales.

The movie's plot: an African-American man visits his Caucasian girlfriend's creepy family estate.

It nudged "The Lego Batman Movie" into second place, after two weeks as No. one. It was on track for a $19 million weekend, and $133 million in gross receipts in 17 days of showings.

"John Wick: Chapter 2" was third, with $9 million in projected sales this weekend and $74.4 million over 17 days.

Rounding out the 10 most-popular movies this week, as estimated by the studios and collated by comScore, were "The Great Wall" ($8.7 million), "Fifty Shades Darker" ($7.7 million), "Fist Fight" ($6.4 million), "Hidden Figures" ($5.9 million), "La La Land" ($4.6 million), "Split" ($4.1 million) and "Lion" ($3.8 million).
