Is Beverly Hills The Best City For Happy Hour?

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Which cities enjoy the happiest happy hour? Redfin investigated by combing through more than 4 million Instagram posts from 2010 to 2017 with the hashtag #HappyHour to see where people were getting their drink on – Beverly Hills is where the party is at.

Broken up by country, the United States dominated the #HappyHour study with 394 posts per 100,000 residents mentioning the hashtag. Did you know the phrase "happy hour" originated with the U.S. Navy? It originally referred to onboard entertainment such as wrestling, or enjoying a cocktail, according to Redfin.

Redfin also found the top 15 U.S. cities for the hashtag per 100,000 residents, and Beverly Hills came in third place with 22,729 Instagram posts using the hashtag. Here's the complete list of top 15:

Broken up by time of day, happy hour mentions in Instagram peaked around 10 p.m. Friday was unsurprisingly the most popular day of the week for the after-work cocktail with 21.9% of photos posted on the day, and Sunday was the least popular with just 9% of photos posted. By month, happy hour peaked in May with 545,000 posts, but took a dive in November with only 288,000 – perhaps that evening drink is more refreshing in the spring.
