Beverly Hills Doctor Sentenced For Workers' Comp Fraud

A Beverly Hills radiologist was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for partaking in a huge fraud scheme.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – A Beverly Hills doctor was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison Monday for his role in a huge fraud scheme, the San Diego Union Tribune reported. Radiologist Dr. Ronald Grusd was convicted in December of 39 charges, including conspiracy, honest services wire and mail fraud and health care fraud, according to the Associated Press.

Grusd’s companies – California Imaging Network Medical Group and Willows Consulting Co. – paid more than $100,000 in bribes to doctors and others for referrals of patients with workers’ compensation claims to his clinics, prosecutors said.

He would look for reimbursement from insurance companies for services given to workers, such as MRIs, toxicology tests, and prescription pain medications, leaving out his bribe agreement with physicians and others, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney in San Diego.

The kickbacks were funneled through both of Grusd's companies. U.S. District Court Judge Cynthia Bashant ordered both Willows Consulting Co. and California Imaging Network Medical Group to pay a $500,000 fine each, the newspaper reported.
