Beverly Hills Is Getting A New Mayor Tuesday

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Mayor Lili Bosse will hand over the gavel to Councilmember Dr. Julian Gold during a ceremony Tuesday night, when Gold will be sworn in for a one-year term as mayor.

Tuesday will mark the completion of Bosse's third term as mayor since she was first elected to the City Council in 2011. In Beverly Hills, council members vote to appoint a mayor for one-year terms on a rotating basis; the mayor serves as head of the council and as a ceremonial representative at events.

The ceremony kicks off at 7 p.m. at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, 9390 N. Santa Monica Blvd. Councilmember Lester Friedman will also be sworn in as vice mayor, taking over that job from Gold. A reception will follow.

Bosse at the start of her term said her focus would be on public safety, mental wellness and support of local businesses. She announced the launch of BHPD alert for real-time notifications to residents; the Real Time Watch Center to monitor the city's surveillance network; a live 911 system to allow police officers to hear live emergency calls without waiting for dispatch; and the 30X30 initiative, which aims to have 30 percent of the city's sworn personnel be women by 2030.

Her Business with Bosse program holds meetups at various local businesses across the city.

As part of her nearly three decades of experience in public service and nonprofit leadership, Bosse previously served on the Planning Commission, Traffic and Parking Commission, Arts and Culture Commission and on the Beverly Hills Education Foundation.

This will be Gold's third term as mayor since being elected to the council in 2011. He previously served on the Traffic and Parking Commission and Recreation and Parks Commission.

Gold, an anesthesiologist of 40 years, has served as co-chairman of Cedars-Sinai's Anesthesiology Department, co-managing partner of General Anesthesia Specialists Partnership Medical Group, a professor of clinical anesthesiology at USC Keck School of Medicine and on the board of directors at Cedars-Sinai.
