Beverly Hills Police Promote 20-Year Department Veteran To Captain

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Beverly Hills police announced Thursday that Kevin M. Orth has been promoted to captain after two decades with the department.

The promotion takes effect Saturday. Orth will lead the Beverly Hills Police Department's Administrative Services Division, overseeing the Personnel & Training, Records and Communications bureaus, along with the department's Budget Team.

Orth began his BHPD career as a police cadet in 2006 and became a police officer the following year. He has since served as a patrol officer, DUI enforcement officer, canine officer, patrol sergeant, detective sergeant and patrol lieutenant.

His previous leadership responsibilities have included oversight of patrol operations, the Field Training Officer Program, Canine Unit and Crime Lab operations.

Since late 2024, Orth has served as the department's executive officer in the Office of the Chief. In that role, he oversaw the Professional Standards Unit, Community Relations Unit, Media Relations and public information functions, Reserve Unit and Disaster Communication System volunteers.

Orth holds a master's degree in criminal justice and a bachelor's degree in psychology. His law enforcement training includes POST Supervisory and Management Schools, the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy and the San Diego County Regional Leadership Institute.

He has also received several honors during his career, including the Allen H. Karlin Award for Exemplary Police Work, the MADD Award, the Masonic Police Award and recognition as Beverly Hills Patrol Officer of the Year.
