Blog: A Sculpture Gift To Beverly Hills
Murray Pepper's gift of a beautiful sculpture to our city and dedicated to his wife, the former City Council Member and leading advocate for the cultural center, Ms. Vicki Reynolds.

In our beloved City of Beverly Hills, we have several bronze scultures throughout our town in both our parks and in front of our buildings. Often, they are outright gifts by residents to our city's greenspace; sometimes their donations are ...in commemoration to loved ones. And, some are necessary additions to our streetscape because of our building codes. Often, as in all art, there may be a variance in how we each perceive and appreciate these creative pieces. Here is one of these more-loving contibutions to the artistry of our city's landscape.
The Burton Way grass median facing our Municipal Court Building - In 1983, a painted steel bronze was donated by Dr. Murray Pepper in honor of his wife, our city-dedicated former Mayor Vicki Reynolds. The bronze sculpture "Sisyphus" was created by Alexander Liberman, and was helped funded by Pepper and the BH Public Art Fund. This gift from one person to his mate is a cherished legacy in a few other locations of our city, too. The sculpture is close to city hall. You may park at the city hall parking lot, exit/walk through the back gate on to Civic Center Drive and turn right. Since it's on the grass strip of Burton Way, you may stay awhile.
The Honorable Vicki Reynolds has continued to serve our city well by being a leading advocate and supporter of the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts which is now scheduled to open in the Spring of 2013. It will be invaluable for each of us to do what we can to help provide the city with this next cultural icon's success. Thank you.
