Common Dental Emergencies

A toothache and a tooth that has been knocked out are two common dental emergencies that require a dentist right away.

The worst thing about dental emergencies is that they occur when you least suspect it. Some dental emergencies tend to be more common than others.

A toothache is a very common dental emergency. The first thing that you will want to do is to rinse your mouth out with warm water. If the source of the toothache is food getting stuck between the teeth, gently use dental floss to try and remove it. You can hold a cold compress up to your cheek if swelling starts to occur. Whatever you do, do not put crushed-up aspirin on the tooth or gums to try and stop the pain.

Another common dental emergency is accidentally knocking a tooth out. Absolutely do not grab it by its root, but hold it by the crown instead. Rinsing the tooth off with water can be a good idea if it got dirty, but avoid scrubbing it clean. Try to place it back in the socket, but if that is not possible, do not force it. Instead place the tooth between your cheek and gums or in a small container of milk. Then get to our expert in dental emergency in Los Angeles as soon as possible, as your best chance to save it is if the dentist is able to return it to its socket within one hour of knocking it out.

If you have experienced any dental emergency, it is always best to get to an emergency dentist as soon as possible.
