Alexandra Hedison: Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere

Diane Rosenstein Fine Art is pleased to announce the gallery’s first solo exhibition of photographs by Alexandra Hedison.  On view will be a new series of work: Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (2008-2012) as well as a related group of four photographs from (Re)building (2005).

Created over a period of four years, the new photographs in “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere,” record the mercurial terrain beneath the Malibu beach houses where Hedison grew up. These images are both vivid and abstract, subjugating the landscape to painterly compositions and surreal tableaus. The new photographs in “Nowhere” map a subliminal geography once hidden from view; in the process, they become the memory itself.

Alexandra Hedison (USA, b. 1969) is a contemporary fine art photographer based in London and Los Angeles. Committed to the decisiveness and precision of working with large and medium format film, she addresses the interstices between tradition and novelty by exploring the transitions between the two.  Each photograph is a direct encounter between the individual and the immensity of the landscape, both architectural and natural.  For the last decade, Hedison’s photographs have been exhibited internationally in both solo and group shows.  Her work is included in public and private collections, including Barclays Capital (UK), CQ Global (Singapore), and Participant Media (Beverly Hills).
