How Long Do Veneers Last?

Veneers can last from 5-20 years with regular brushing and flossing, along with a biannual visit to the dentist for an exam and cleaning.

Veneers are generally considered the best option for masking imperfections with your teeth. Veneers are so versatile that they can be used to correct stained, gapped, chipped, and crooked teeth. With proper care, veneers can last over 20 years.

Proper care with veneers is very similar to how you would practice proper care for your natural teeth. It is recommended that you regularly brush and floss your teeth every day, along with paying the dentist a visit two times a year for a professional exam and cleaning. While the veneers themselves are not living, they are bonded to your natural teeth. Because your natural teeth are still alive, they are still at risk of tooth decay from bad eating habits and poor oral hygiene. If the tooth behind the veneer fails or if too much gum recedes, then the veneer may also need to be replaced. While veneers can last up to 20 years or more, the average span is usually around 5-10 years. If you suffer from a condition such as bruxism, you will need to wear a mouth brace at night in order to best protect the veneers.
