Is Invisalign More Effective than Braces?

In most cases, Invisalign is just as effective as braces in moving teeth into proper alignment.

When it comes to whether Invisalign is more effective than braces at moving your teeth into the proper alignment, the better way to think about it is that Invisalign is just as effective as braces in a majority of cases. Invisalign does have certain advantages over braces, though.

Instead of metal brackets and wires, Invisalign uses a system of clear plastic aligners in order to move teeth. One of the main advantages of Invisalign is that these aligners are effectively invisible while they are being worn. That means the patient is able to have a certain level of discretion during their treatment that is simply not possible with metal braces. Another big advantage is that the aligners are also removable. Not only does this allow patients to continue eating whatever they want during treatment, it also makes oral hygiene much easier. Instead of having to worry about trying to clean in between brackets and wires, Invisalign patients just remove their aligners and brush and floss like normal. As far as moving teeth is concerned, though, there are a few cases in which braces may actually be the more effective option. These cases include patients who need to drastically rotate teeth, need to move teeth vertically, and patients who have a particularly bad malocclusion. But if you take a look at some Invisalign before and after images, you will see that in a majority of the cases, Invisalign is just as effective as braces.
