Eli Groner, director-general of the office of Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, provided a high-level briefing on important strategic issues to the senior management, leadership and donors of the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles (The Foundation) during a recent local visit. Groner was joined at the meeting by Israel’s Consul General to the Southwestern United States Sam Grundwerg.

Groner, who earlier was posted in Washington, D.C., as Israel’s minister of economic affairs to the United States, and is currently his country’s senior-most civilian employee, provided an in-depth, optimistic assessment of a wide range of topics including the robust domestic economy and present security situation. Specifically, he spoke about a burgeoning technology industry, citing the recent $15 billion sale of Israel’s Mobileye to semiconductor giant Intel Corp. He also cited the country’s leadership role in technology sectors of rapidly growing importance including driverless cars and cybersecurity, noting that about 20 percent of all global cybersecurity business emanates from Israel.

Groner and Grundwerg underscored the vital role that The Foundation’s extensive grantmaking to Israel through the years has played in social impact and economic development, expressing deep appreciation for the organization’s tireless efforts to build and strengthen the country.
