Katie Cleary Applauds COVERGIRL for Becoming Cruelty-Free
"If we have more companies like COVERGIRL speaking out against animal testing, and stopping it, we have the opportunity to change the world"
Katie Cleary, international model and founder of Peace 4 Animals, is a long-time advocate of cruelty-free and fur-free companies and has partnered with ethical cosmetics and fashion brands for over 25 years to spread compassion in fashion. She recently helped pass The California Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act (SB1249) last month, and today is applauding COVERGIRL’s announcement to end animal testing.
“COVERGIRL is the largest cosmetics brand to end animal testing for cosmetics, and it is an ideal time for mainstream media to delve deeper into the many layers of what this means worldwide,” states Cleary.
“I applaud COVERGIRL for choosing compassion over cruelty and joining the worldwide movement to end animal testing for cosmetics,” Cleary states. “It’s a huge milestone that should continue to stress the importance of ending animal testing for cosmetics. Hopefully this will lead the way for other beauty companies that have yet to adopt anti-animal testing philosophies and practices.”

It is estimated that more than 100 million animals – including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish and birds – are recklessly killed for animal testing experiments each year in the United States.
“Animals and humans don’t always have the same reaction to chemicals and products,” states Judie Mancuso, founder of Social Compassion in Legislation, in Los Angeles. “Approximately half a million animals are killed, just for vanity, to be tested on for cosmetics every year. It’s time to end this archaic model.”
