Killer Menendez Brothers Reunited In San Diego Prison

Eric and Lyle Menendez were convicted of first-degree murder for shooting their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion in 1989.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – The Menendez brothers, who were convicted of murdering their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion in 1989, have been reunited in a San Diego prison. Erik Menendez, 47, has moved into the same housing unit as his 50-year-old brother, Lyle Menendez, at the San Diego’s Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility, California corrections department spokeswoman Terry Thornton told the Los Angeles Times.

The facility doesn't limit interaction between inmates – the brothers enjoyed a "heartfelt reunion," Erik's wife, Tammi Menendez, told New York Post.

The brothers are serving life sentences for fatally shooting their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, almost three decades ago, according to Los Angeles Times. The duo went on a spending spree after the murders, but were eventually caught after Erik confessed to his psychiatrist, New York Post reported.

The brothers said the murders happened following sexual abuse by their father, but prosecutors said during the trial that they wanted their parents' multimillion-dollar estate, according to Los Angeles Times.

A 1994 trial ended with a hung jury, but the brothers were tried again, and both were convicted of first-degree murder in 1996. They were each sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison without parole.
