On April 20, 2010, a deep sea oil rig leased by BP exploded off the coast of Louisiana, unleashing the worst ecological disaster in US history. Of the 126 people on board this rig, 11 died and 17 were injured.

Directed by Peter Berg ("Lone Survivor"), "Deepwater Horizon" is based on this fateful event.

The film stars Mark Wahlberg as electronic technician Mike Williams; Kate Hudson as his wife; Gina Rodriguez as Mike's colleague; Kurt Russell as their crew captain; John Malkovich as a BP executive.
