BHPD Arrests Murder Suspect With Help From City's Surveillance Network

Beverly Hills' license-plate readers and security cameras helped police arrest a man wanted for a Los Angeles murder, BHPD said.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Using the city's network of surveillance technology, police in Beverly Hills arrested a man wanted on suspicion of murder last month, the Beverly Hills Police Department said this week.

Angel Joel Rodriguez, 21, of Van Nuys, was arrested on July 27, police said.

The city's automated license plate reader system notified officers of a vehicle connected to a Los Angeles homicide investigation, where the suspects were described as armed and dangerous, according to a BHPD release.

Personnel using the city's Real Time Watch Center located the vehicle and directed officers to its location, police said.

"The driver of the vehicle lost control and was involved in a traffic collision with a parked vehicle. He exited the vehicle and ran on foot while armed with a handgun. At one point, the suspect discarded the handgun while being chased on foot. Officers eventually caught up to the suspect and took him into custody without using force," the release reads.
