Obama To Appear At Beverly Hills Fundraiser For Sen. McCaskill

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) very noticeably backed Obama over Hillary Clinton early in 2008.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Former President Barack Obama will attend a Beverly Hills fundraiser for Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) in May, a new report states. Obama is listed as a special guest at the May 6 fundraiser – this may be a sign that Obama will start making more appearances in the midterm elections, according to POLITICO.

The fundraiser is hosted by actress Katie McGrath, film studio executive Jeffrey Katzenberg, filmmaker Steven Spielberg and others Los Angeles stars. This is his first post-presidential fundraising event for an individual candidate, POLITICO reports, but the female senator noticeably backed Obama over Hillary Clinton in 2008.

This report comes days after McCaskill took a dig at the failed 2016 presidential candidate, Washington Examiner reports.

“For those of us that are in states that Trump won, we would really appreciate if she would be more careful and show respect to every American voter and not just the ones who voted for her,” McCaskill said Sunday night on MSNBC.

The stab came after Clinton said that many of the states that voted for her were "optimistic" and "moving forward," but the states that voted for President Trump's campaign were "looking backwards." McCaskill said it seemed that Clinton was condemning Missouri voters, who gave Trump an almost 20-percentage point lead over Clinton in 2016, according to Washington Examiner, although she said she could see what Clinton meant by her statement.

There wasn't an admission price listed on the invitation, which was paid for by McCaskill 2018 Victory — a joint fundraising committee for McCaskill, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Missouri Democratic State Committee, according to POLITICO.

McCaskill will likely face Republican state Attorney General Josh Hawley, and is one of the most vulnerable Senate Democrats seeking reelection in 2018.
