Skirball Seeking Family Hanukkah Videos For Online Celebration

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles is reaching out to area residents to join in this year's virtual, Hanukkah celebration.

Locals can submit self-recorded, video clips of family "Festival of Lights" commemorations for possible inclusion in a featured presentation planned for 2020. The online event will air via YouTube on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 3 p.m.

Clips should be 30 seconds to one minute in length, featuring such moments as lighting a Hanukkah lamp, saying blessings, spinning dreidels, enjoying gelt or frying latkes.

Video submissions are due by 5 p.m. Nov. 8. See details here.

Considered one of the world's most dynamic Jewish cultural institutions, Skirball on North Sepulveda Boulevard currently is closed to the public due to the coronavirus pandemic. Its annual Hanukkah event will go virtual this year, with center officials working to make it memorable with a menorah lighting, music and story-telling.

"Enjoy a heartwarming, community candle lighting and a lively sing-along to get you feeling festive. Groove to the klezmer beat of LA’s own Mostly Kosher, jam to the psychedelic funk of Israeli superstar Gili Yalo, and gather ’round for a timely retelling of the age-old Hanukkah story. If you tune in on Sunday, when the program premieres, you can participate in a virtual game for prizes."
