Son Charged For Allegedly Strangling Mom To Death

The 67-year-old woman was murdered in her Beverly Hills home last October. Her son was allegedly motivated by financial gain, police said.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – The son of a 67-year-old woman who was strangled to death last October in Beverly Hills was charged Tuesday for the murder of his mother, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office announced. Daniel Yacobi, 36, of Bel Air, faces one count of murder with a special circumstance allegation for his alleged motive of financial gain.

Yacobi is scheduled to be arraigned today at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Airport Branch.

Officers and fire department personnel responded on Oct. 10 to a call of an unconscious woman not breathing in the 600 block of North Roxbury Drive, according to Beverly Hills police. Despite lifesaving measures, Violet Yacobi was pronounced dead at the scene.

Daniel Yacobi accompanied the victim's daughter to her home to check on her after unsuccessful attempts to reach her by phone, police said.

Beverly Hills police detectives, the Los Angeles Field Office of the United States Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force and the Los Angeles County coroner's office began investigating the circumstances of the woman's death, determined she had been strangled and eventually ruled her death a homicide.

Physical, digital and other evidence led investigators to suspect that her son was responsible for his mother's death and that financial gain was the motive, police said.

Yacobi faces death or life in state prison without the possibility of parole if convicted as charged. A decision on whether to seek the death penalty will be made at a later date, the press release said. The defendant is being held without bail.

The case remains under investigation by the Beverly Hills Police Department.
