Residents Win Approval for Two Preferential Parking Zones

The City Council OKs the areas in the 700 block of North Sierra Drive and the 800 block of North Doheny Drive.

Residential complaints of persuaded the City Council on Tuesday to approve changes to some Beverly Hills parking zones.

"There would be 40 or 50 cars every night leaving trash and making noise," resident Ray Friedman told the council about people from outside the neighborhood parking on his block.

Parking from 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. without an O parking permit is no longer allowed in the 700 block of North Sierra Drive between Cinthia Street and Elevado Avenue. The block's daytime two-hour street parking limit has been extended from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. It had previously been from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The O preferential parking zone will also include two blocks of Elevado Avenue between Alta and North Oakhurst drives.

Residents have noticed an increase in the number of cars in the area belonging to employees of a restaurant and nightclub on Sunset Boulevard at the north end of North Sierra Drive. Neighbors said they could spot the employees because many would walk to their cars wearing aprons.

"It has been a rough seven or eight months on Sierra," another resident said to the council.

The council also approved a preferential parking zone in the 800 block of North Doheny Drive between Phyllis and Cinthia streets. The zone will allow two-hour parking from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and JJ permit parking from 7 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
