Universal Studios Hollywood Raises Prices Right After Disneyland

Universal Studios Hollywood raised daily ticket prices by more than 7%, just two weeks after Disneyland raised ticket prices by nearly 9%.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Universal Studios Hollywood raised daily ticket prices by more than seven percent only two weeks after their biggest Southern California rival Disneyland increased their daily ticket prices by nearly nine percent, Los Angeles Times reports.

A peak-demand daily ticket for Universal Studios Hollywood jumped over the weekend from $120 to $129 when purchased at the gate, but visitors can save up to $20 off that price by booking online. California residents can save up to $30 off the gate price with an online purchase.

The price hike comes a few months before Universal Studios Hollywood opens a new attraction based on the 2008 DreamWorks movie "Kung Fu Panda," Los Angeles Times reports.

Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood have adopted tiered pricing, charging more on days that are high in demand in an attempt to reduce crowding.

"Our ticket pricing is competitive and reflective of our exciting entertainment options," Audrey Eig, spokeswoman for the theme park, told Los Angeles Times. "Purchasing online remains a great choice for guests where variable pricing provides a range of tickets and a host of benefits that best suit their needs."
