Waxman Watch: End the 38-Year Tenure of Henry Waxman
Arthur Christopher Schaper is a resident of the 33rd Congressional District informing the residents of Brentwood to end the 38-year tenure of Henry Waxman.

To the residents of Brentwood:
Congressman Henry Waxman has been in Congress for 38 years: so much time, with so little to show for his efforts on behalf the voters in West Los Angeles. The
Great Recession has given way to an anemic recovery, yet Congressman Waxman
stands by one of the most divisive Presidents in history, an executive whose
foreign policy has alienated this nation's strongest ally in the Middle East,
Israel; and whose domestic policies have prolonged the economic stagnation with
8.3% unemployment, diminishing returns on Social Security, and annual trillion
dollar deficits exploding the national debt.
On environmental and energy issues, Mr. Waxman has consistently opposed measures which would decrease this country's dependence on foreign oil, including the XL Keystone pipeline extension. For seventeen years, he opposed the subway to the sea from Downtown LA, a project which would have freed up the traffic and the growing congestion on Wilshire Blvd. while improving LA residents' quality of life and environment.
Waxman has authored some of the most divisive legislation, barely passing along party lines while alienating elements of his own party. Waxman-Markey (Cap and Trade) would have bankrupted industries across the country. ObamaCare, a law which passed with strong opposition from Republicans and Democrats, to this day remains unpopular with a majority of the American People. The largest tax increase in modern times, ObamaCare has diminished access to healthcare while forcing insurance premiums higher.

Currently running for reelection in the newly-drawn 33rd Congressional district, which takes in the entire Santa Monica Bay all the way to Palos Verdes, Congressman Henry Waxman also has a consistent record of voting against tax relief for this country.
From voting against eliminating the Death and Marriage taxes (2000), the Death Tax Elimination Act of 2001, the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001, to voting against the standard deduction for married taxpayers, the bipartisan-supported American Jobs Creation Act of 2004, the Working Families Tax Relief Act of 2004, the Tax Increase Prevention and Reconciliation Act of 2005, and Pension Protection (2006), Mr. Waxman has opposed efforts to assist working families and intrepid entrepreneurs who need less government and more tax relief for investment and expansion.

Waxman also voted against the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006, which contained a provision for health savings accounts. If Mr. Waxman really wanted to increase health care access in this country, why did he vote down a provision permitting consumers to purchase health savings accounts?

The Bush tax cuts are set to expire at the end of the year. Judging by his
record, Mr. Waxman is not inclined to extend those cuts, which would introduce
catastrophic tax hikes on an economy still reeling from the Great Recession.
Congressman Waxman is a taxing choice not worth the taking. The established estates and struggling industries of West Los Angeles should not suffer one more term of a politician who never met a tax increase he never liked and who has yet to meet any tax relief which he has not rejected.
