Brentwood School Tennis Players Hope to Shine in Ojai Tourney

The Eagles' No. 1 player TJ Pura and Stanford sophomore Walker Kehrer highlight draws.

 is competing in the high school division at the 111th Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament starting Thursday.

The Eagles are vying for the Griggs Cup, awarded to the school with the most combined wins in singles and doubles, and Coach 's squad has a real shot to win it this spring.

Brentwood's No. 1 player  is at the top of the bracket in the boys' CIF singles division and will play Jake Douglas of Palos Verdes in the first round Thursday morning at Thacher School.

The winner moves on to play either Devin Barber of Atascadero or Jordan Gobatie of Riverside Poly in the second round at 2 p.m.

In CIF doubles, the Eagles' tandem of and will take on Max Licona and Spencer Pekar of Palisades in the first round Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The winner has to play again at 3:30 p.m. against brothers Gerrit and Trent Dickey of Temecula or Chetan Munugala and Phil Xiao of Fullerton Troy.

In the Pacific-10 Conference Invitational division, Brentwood graduate will try to repeat as doubles champion. The Stanford sophomore went 14-4 overall in doubles last season, playing with five different partners. He and Greg Hirshman beat Tobi Obenaus and Alex Rosinski of Washington 8-4 in the final last spring.

This year, Kehrer is paired with freshman Daniel Ho and they will take on USC's Michael Grant and Peter Lucassen in the quarterfinals Friday at 4 p.m. at Libbey Park.
