CicLAvia Announces 'Nike+ Run Club 5K'

CicLAvia explains the events for August 14, the new route along Wilshire Boulevard, and a pre-event 5K run in a partnership with Nike.

From CicLAvia:

CicLAvia will launch its Aug. 14 route along Wilshire Boulevard with a pre-event 5K run in a partnership with Nike. This summer, Nike is celebrating the Spirit of Sport and challenging athletes* to find their Unlimited Potential. Open to the public, consumers can come run and train with Nike throughout the month of August by signing up for free at Nike.com/LA.

Runners can participate in the Nike+ Run Club 5K at 8 a.m. that starts at 3780 Wilshire Blvd. in Koreatown and end near the downtown CicLAvia hub, where Nike representatives and city officials will kick-off the 18th installment of the car-free festival with 9 a.m. press conference.

The press conference will include Los Angeles Councilman Jose Huizar, Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Barbara Romero, Los Angeles Department of Transportation General Manager Seleta Reynolds and Nike West Territory, VP/GM Blanca Gonzalez. CicLAvia Executive Director Romel Pascual will serve as the emcee.

The route is considered one of the friendliest for runners and walkers and will take visitors along iconic locations along Wilshire Boulevard. As part of the CicLAvia Gives program, Nike will also donate 50 pairs of the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 33 to community organizations, Koreatown Youth & Community Center and Heart of LA.

The theme of the event's 18th installment is Stories, in celebration of the new discoveries that Angelenos make about their city during CicLAvia events. Participants will be able to participate in an interactive story-telling field guide which involves a commemorative notebook prize.

CicLAvia will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature activities, music and local business between downtown Los Angeles and Koreatown. In partnership with AARP-LA, CicLAvia will also offer five pedicabs (bike operated taxis) to make it easier for people to travel throughout the route.

CicLAvia is the nation’s largest open street festival, closing the streets to car traffic for people to walk, skate, bike, play and explore the diverse neighborhoods of Los Angeles County. The route doesn’t have a start or finish; CicLAvia traffic flows in both directions and people are invited to begin at any point along the course.
