The Best of Both Worlds: Raising Children in Intercultural, Interracial, and Inter-religious Families

When people from different backgrounds have a child together, they quickly realize that the interplay of religions and/or cultures has a big impact on that child's upbringing. Using lecture, video, and hands-on exercises, this workshop instructs caregivers how to:

• Identify how racial, religious, and cultural differences within your relationship affect your children
• Help your child develop confidence with his/her own sense of identity
• Deal with family, societal pressures, and prejudices
• Negotiate and make clear decisions with respect and creativity

Open to couples of all backgrounds and lifestyles.

Instructors: Dr. Joel Crohn, PhD, is a clinical psychologist who specializes in working with cross-cultural couples and families. He is the author of Mixed Matches: How to Create Successful Interracial, Interethnic and Interfaith Relationships, and co-author of Beyond the Chuppah: A Jewish Guide to Happy Marriages.

Farzana Nayani, MA, is President of Multiracial Americans of Southern California, an organization that represents the needs of the mixed-race and multiethnic community. An educator and communication trainer with expertise in multi-religious and multiracial issues, Nayani is a frequently invited guest speaker on race and diversity.
