First Annual Sports Safety Awareness Extravaganza Brings Free Custom-Fitted Mouthguards

WHAT: Gentle Dental, a full service dental provider, is hosting its first annual Sports Safety Awareness Extravaganza welcoming all members of Liberty High School’s football team to receive a free custom-fitted mouth guard. During the event, athletes will be visiting the Brentwood dental practice to take impressions of their teeth for their mouth guard.

WHY: Studies show that more than 5 million teeth are avulsed (completely displaced from their socket due to trauma) each year in the United States, costing more than $500 million to treat. The cost to treat an avulsed tooth over a lifetime is between $5,000 and $20,000. Most studies show that mouth guards reduce dental injuries; the overall rate of an orofacial injury 1.6 to 1.9 times higher when a mouth guard is not worn. For high school and college football players in particular, mouth guards significantly reduce dental injury rates as well as the cost of orofacial injury treatment. This would be a great opportunity to highlight these statistics to hopefully encourage other local athletes to take the same precaution.
