Diesel, A Bookstore in Brentwood welcomes former Los Angeles MayorRichard J. Riordan to the store to discuss and sign his new autobiography, The Mayor: How I Turned Around Los Angeles After Riots, an Earthquake and the O.J. Simpson Murder Trial on Wednesday, October 1st at 7pm.
Mayor Richard J. Riordan, between the years of 1993 and 2001, pulled Los Angeles from the brink of collapse. As a pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-immigration, non-ideological Republican, Riordan turned L.A. into a thriving metropolis in the wake of the 1992 L.A. riots and the devastating 1994 Northridge earthquake. In his autobiography, Riordan brings to light the numerous tragedies he faced, and how those events shaped him as both mayor and individual, from the deaths of his two young children, to the passing of his mother on the eve of his mayoral election. Delving into the successes and difficulties he faced during his time as mayor, and the ideas and value system that drove his work, this book provides a look at one of the most beloved political figures in recent American history.
Richard J. Riordan is a venture capitalist, lawyer, and philanthropist. In 1993, he became the mayor of Los Angeles. He continues to be one of the most popular public figures in Los Angeles, and he continues to dedicate his life to helping poor families.
