Heads Up for Uncle Sam's Head Count: Census Data Coming Tuesday
The U.S. Census Bureau is releasing data that may change the way we look at Brentwood.

Brentwood residents will get the chance to see how the community has changed over the past 10 years when the U.S. Census Bureau releases results from the 2010 count Tuesday afternoon.
In 2000, the census listed the 90049 ZIP code as having a population of 33,520. The community was 87.5 percent "white" and households with kids under 18 at home were 16.5 percent of the residences. Owner-occupied residences sheltered 53 percent of our neighbors, 55 percent of whom were female.
All these details are in the extract of the 2000 Census in the attached PDF.

The Census Bureau did release state population figures in December 2010 that indicate the population of California has grown by 10 percent during the last decade, from 33.9 million residents in 2000 to 37.3 million in 2010.
Though California’s growth rate by percentage makes it the 20th fastest growing state in the country, it remains the most populous state.

The number of representatives the Golden State state sends to Washington will remain the same, however.
Legislative districts (both for Sacramento and Washington) will be reapportioned later this year by the new non-partisan state redistricting commission approved by the voters. The commission's brief is to rationalize the oddly-gerrymandered fiefdoms sanctified by years of back-room political deals.
