Knife Found at OJ Simpson's Not the Murder Weapon: Updated
A knife found by a construction worker on OJ Simpson's former Brentwood estate was not the weapon used in the notorious murders.

The knife allegedly found by a demolition crew at OJ Simpson’s former Brentwood estate has been ruled out as the murder weapon in the infamous 1994 slayings of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
"It has no nexus to the crime," LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman told Patch.
The discovery of the knife set off a media firestorm last month after police announced a series of forensic tests to determine of it was the murder weapon.

The knife was found at Simpson's mansion at 360 N. Rockingham Ave in Brentwood, California, which was demolished in 1998.
Retired LAPD Officer George Maycott claims that a construction worker at the site handed the knife over to him in 2003 and that he tried to turn it over as evidence, but department officials didn’t believe it was necessary, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Over the last month, investigators analyzed the rusty 5-inch blade, testing it for DNA and comparing it to the wounds on the murder victims to determine if it could have been used in the crimes. At trial, a coroner's investigator testified that a 6-inch blade was most likely used in the murders, according to the Times.
Simpson, a college and professional football star, was acquitted of the murders after a nearly 11-month trial. The prosecution could never produce a murder weapon. A knife was presented to the judge, but was excluded as evidence because oil on the blade showed that it was brand new and couldn't have been used in the murder.
Simpson was sentenced to 33 years in jail in 2008 for an armed robbery of a Las Vegas casino hotel.
During the media firestorm last month, Simpson’s former manager told People magazine Simpson "isn't losing any sleep. Everybody I've spoken with says he's just ignoring it. He's not talking about it. When he heard the news on TV, all he did was shake his head, as if to say, 'Will this ever end?' He's definitely shrugging it off and pretty much saying, 'I'm not going to worry about it.'"
