Against the backdrop of a tension-filled Chicago in the 1960s, Naomi Hill is the singer at the Blue Angel club. She’s seductive, ambitious, and self-destructive. This last fact, her daughter, Sophia, knows all too well, and she lives in a constant fear that the world she knows will disappear in a moment. Her only comfort comes from the colorful and untraditional family that surrounds her mother, particularly Jim: photographer, surrogate father, and a man deeply in love with Naomi.
