Woman Plunges From City Hall Balcony

A woman was seriously injured in a fall from a balcony 25 feet above the ground at Los Angeles City Hall.

LOS ANGELES, CA - A woman was seriously injured today when she plunged about 25 feet into a grate from a balcony near the top of Los Angeles City Hall, authorities said.

Firefighters called to the scene at about 5:30 p.m. treated the woman before taking her to a hospital, according to Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

It was unclear whether the woman's plunge was accidental, intentional or the result of a medical emergency, the LAFD's Peter Sanders told City News Service.

The woman might have been on a ledge or a railing prior to her fall.

It was unclear if the woman had been accompanied prior to the incident, Sanders said.
