Coco is 8-years old and arrived at the shelter after her owner was placed in a nursing home and the pup simply wasn’t allowed to go along. This sweet girl had been loved for 8 years and fed into obesity -- so much so that she couldn’t walk and had to be carried.
A trip to the vet confirmed she needed to lose about 5 pounds…quite a bit of extra weight for such a tiny girl to be carrying! It was also discovered that she had luxating patellas in both knees and severe hip dysplasia along with arthritis. It was hoped when she lost her weight that her mobility would return and she wouldn’t need either the hip or knee surgery. She is on Medacam as needed for her arthritis.
While at the vet she also had her teeth cleaned and a slight skin condition treated. She now eats duck and potato prescription food along with Atopica medication every three days.

The good news is while she was in foster care her skin condition was brought under control and she’s now down to 12.4 pounds and is able to jump, run, and even dance on her hind legs!
Here are some things you should know about this precious girl:

· She’s playful with other dogs.
· She prefers small dogs as big ones tend to overwhelm her.
· She loves her daily walks which help keep her weight in check.
· She makes some of the cutest sounds you’ll ever hear.
· She alert barks but calms down once all is well.
· She is a snuggle bug and loves to sleep right up against you.
· She is happy to sleep in her crate, too.
She’s housebroken if her human is diligent...watching for “go potty signs” like sitting by the door or running up to her human and staring. She does best with an open door or a dog door where she can go out as needed. She also used puppy pads in foster care and never had an accident.
The perfect size for an apartment, house or condo, this delightful little girl she is hopeful for a loving home with older children. She has been very good both with an infant and toddler in her foster home but a mature household is recommended due to some resource guarding and when excited she initially tends to put teeth to skin when she says hello. Older children will understand, but this will frighten smaller children.
Coco is a love and will warm your heart with her sweet, soulful brown eyes.
It’s amazing what a dog can do for you when you decide to open your home, heart and life and Coco is happy to show you what joy a dog can bring!
