Assault on Son's UCLA Football Coach Was Self Defense, Claims P. Diddy

Sean “Diddy” Combs was acting in self-defense during an altercation with a UCLA strength and conditioning coach that led to the rapper/actor’s arrest on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, a representative said today.

“What we can say now is that any actions taken by Mr. Combs were solely defensive in nature to protect himself and his son,” according to the statement, which was released on the Combs-owned media website Revolt. “We are confident that once the true facts are revealed, the case will be dismissed.”

The website identified the UCLA coach involved as strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi.

Combs was arrested shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Acosta Athletic Training Complex, according to university spokesman Phil Hampton. No one was seriously injured in the altercation.

Combs was released from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Inmate Reception Center at 10:02 p.m.

No details on what led to the altercation were released. According to celebrity website TMZ.com, the elder Combs saw a coach riding his son, Justin Combs, a Bruin redshirt junior defensive back. The elder Combs confronted the coach, TMZ said.

“I’m thankful that our staff showed the level of professionalism that they did in handling this situation,” UCLA football coach Jim Mora said.

“This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved. While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time.”

Justin Combs has made four tackles in seven games over two seasons. He posted a photo of himself with his father on Instagram with the caption, “I thank God for having a father that’s always there for me. Love you pops!”
