UPDATED: Blaze Destroys Second Floor of Condo

An electrical malfunction caused the fire, according to the fire department.

A fire destroyed the second floor of a condo in the 5600 block of Las Virgenes Road on Wednesday, according to fire officials. No injuries were reported.

The blaze was reported a 7:09 p.m. by the condo's resident, who was the only person at the property at the time and called the fire department after a smoke alarm went off, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Chuck Lockmann.

Firefighters extinguished the fire within 20 minutes of arriving on scene, he added. Two bedrooms were destroyed.

An "electrical malfunction" is believed to have sparked the fire, said Capt. Tim Vanderlip.

Sheriff's arson investigators are still seeking the cause of the incident.
