Boat on 101 Freeway Causes SigAlert

A 27-foot boat unhitches from the back of a pick up truck and blocks traffic for several hours on Sunday.

A 27-foot boat blocked two lanes for several hours on the northbound 101 Freeway Sunday when it detached from the rear of a pickup truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident was reported around 3:30 p.m. west of Mureau Road, said Officer Christian Cracraft.

No oncoming vehicles collided with the boat, which prompted a SigAlert and blocked the number three and four lanes for two hours until it was towed, he said.

The CHP is still investigating the matter, though Cracraft said the boat detached because the hitch on the Chevy pickup truck failed.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene while the boat was still on the highway, Cracraft said.
