Calabasas Baseball Team Ends Season With Loss To Newbury Park
Coyotes rally for two runs in the 7th inning, but lose, 8-2.

Down 8-0 to Newbury Park in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Calabasas High baseball team finally decided there would be no more easy outs.
Calabasas rallied for two runs in the Marmonte League season finale, but lost, 8-2, on senior day at Calabasas High School on Wednesday. Newbury Park hit four home runs, two by Jimmie Sherfy.
Newbury Park starter Jordan Brower pitched six shutout innings and held the Calabasas offense at bay for most of game, staying out of trouble until the seventh.

Joey Selan and Jordan Pollack each drove in a run in the seventh inning and Calabasas sent eight batters to the plate, leaving the bases loaded to end the game.
"That last inning, I don't think anyone wanted to get out," Selan said. That sentiment was echoed by his teammates.

Selan drove in Jordan Bass with a one-out double to score the first run for Calabasas. Pollack followed with a full-count single to right that scored Selan.
"I didn't want to go out like that," Pollack said. "I did everything in my power to keep the inning alive."
Jacob Keimach kept the rally going with a single and Alex Rubanowitz loaded the bases with a two-out, infield single.
Dalton Saberhagen could have made things interesting if he could have kept the rally alive, but he bounced back to the pitcher to end the game.
Brower scattered seven hits, four in the seventh inning, and struck out three. His funky, sidearm delivery was challenging for the Calabasas hitters, but not unsolvable.
"We were on him all game," Pollack said. "The scored shouldn't have been like that. We should have won."
Brower's defense turned two double plays and squelched potential Calabasas rallies.
"He did a hell of a job," Calabasas coach Ed Edsall said. "He beat us. He got the pitches he needed when he needed to get them."
Newbury Park took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a three-run home run by Sherfy. He hit an inside curveball on an 0-2 count with two outs over the left field fence. He drove in Taylor Zander and Joe Christian.
Newbury Park took a 4-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI single by Daniel Cohen. Michael Dennis put his team up 5-0 with a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning.
Sherfy hit his second home run of the game in the sixth inning to give Newbury Park a 6-0 lead. His second home run came with two outs and on an 0-2 count.
Calabasas starter Travis Cassidy pitched into the sixth inning, giving up 10 hits and striking out five.
"He pitched well," Edsall said. "There were two or three pitches that really decided the game."
Cohen hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning to put Newbury Park up 8-0. Cohen was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Sherfy was 2-for-3 and drove in four runs.
Selan was 1-for-2 with a walk, a double and drove in a run. Rubanowitz went 2-for-4 with a couple of singles for Calabasas.
Calabasas finished with a 13-15 overall record, 5-9 in league. Newbury Park was 19-9 overall, 9-5 in league.
