CALABASAS, CA — A high-end consignment store in Calabasas was robbed at gunpoint Monday afternoon. Both suspects were apprehended, no jewelry was stolen, and no injuries were reported.

The robbery took place at the Home Consignment Center, located at the Summit Mall on the 26700 block of Agoura Road, right off the 101 Freeway.

Store manager Melissa Blackburn told Patch that just before 4 p.m. Monday, a male she described as Latino, in his 20s, and full of tattoos, entered the store, while a female waited outside in a car. The man walked up to the jewelry counter and asked to see a Rolex watch. Blackburn said that as the attendant looked down, the male took out a hammer and a handgun. He pointed the handgun at the attendant, and shattered the glass with his hammer.

Before he could do anything more, Blackburn said that a nearby mover who is also an MMA fighter flipped the suspect in the air, put him in a triangle chokehold, broke his nose against the concrete, and held him in position until the police arrived.

Blackburn said that sheriff’s deputies arrived just minutes after she called, and the two suspects were apprehended. The Malibu-Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station confirmed that two suspects, who are both already on parole, were taken into custody just after 4 p.m. Monday and charged with armed robbery.

“Thankfully our store was safe, our customers were safe, our staff was safe,” she said. “They were not able to take a darn thing out of the store.” The store closed only 30 minutes before it normally would, and resumed business as usual Tuesday.

Blackburn said that this is the second time the store has been robbed. The first time was in April 2019. After the store closed down and all employees but one left, a man entered through the store’s back entrance, hid in a bathtoom, and finally held up an attendant with the jewelry. He got away with jewelry, and was not apprehended.

Blackburn said that the facility is continually reviewing and upgrading their security procedures.
