Calabasas Father, Son Killed In Ventura Plane Crash

The victims were a 57-year-old man and his 15-year-old son.

CALABASAS, CA — Authorities Monday released the name of a Calabasas man and his teenage son, who were killed in a plane crash in Ventura County's Santa Rosa Valley.

The crash of the single-engine Piper PA-28 was reported about 3:30 p.m. Sunday at a horse ranch at 2730 Marvella Court.

James Harlan, 57, and Dylan Harlan, 15, died at the scene, according to the Ventura County medical examiner and coroner's office.

Ventura County Fire Department spokesman Steve Swindle said civilians put out a small fire after the crash, and there were no injuries on the ground. The plane had taken off from Camarillo Airport.

The cause of the crash was under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
