Calabasas Students Face Charges in Spray-Painting of Anti-Semitic Slurs

An arraignment date is set for June 30 at the Sylmar Juvenile Court.

Three students booked on suspicion of spray-painting anti-Semitic slurs and images around their school in April are to be charged with one count of felony vandalism with a hate crime enhancement, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office announced Tuesday.

If convicted of the vandalism charges, the three teenage boys could each spend up to three years in confinement at a Division of Juvenile Justice facility, said Sharia Davila-Morales, a spokeswoman with the district attorney's office.

They could end up serving more time if they are found guilty of a hate crime, though the length of that sentence is unclear at this time, she added.

Two of the suspects are age 16, and one is 17, Davila-Morales said. Because they are minors, their names are not being disclosed.

Calabasas High School maintenance workers arrived on campus April 23 to discover the school riddled with anti-Semitic images and slurs. The students were arrested April 26 after confessing to the vandalism to sheriff's deputies and were later released into the custody of their parents.
