Calabasas Hosts 'Environmental Impacts Of Wildfires' Forum

The forum is hosted by the City's Environmental Commission. It is free and open to the public.

CALABASAS, CA – The City of Calabasas will host an “Environmental Impacts of Wildfires and Mitigation Measures Forum” on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019 from 6 to 8:00 p.m. in Founders Hall. The forum is hosted by the City’s Environmental Commission and is free and open to the public, according to the press release.

Forum topics and speakers will include: "Fire Impacts on Wildlife and Plants in the Park" by Katy Semple Delaney, NPS Wildlife Ecologist; “On Wildfire Impacts and Brush Clearance Strategies” by Ron Durbin, Acting Assistant Chief LA County Fire Department; “On Fire-wise Native Plants” by Lilli Singer, Director of Special Projects, Theodore Payne Foundation; “Mitigating Environmental Impacts of Wildfires in Your Neighborhood” by Don Schmitz, AICP, Land Use Consultant; and “Mitigating Wildfire Damage to Your Home” by Will Shepphird, Architect /Engineer.

“We are all aware of the destruction caused by the recent Woolsey Fire," Calabasas Mayor David J. Shapiro said in a statement. “It's important to learn about ways to make a difference in the types and locations of plants, gardens and construction we choose in order to continue to protect ourselves and our environment.”
