Calm Independence Day for Deputies in Calabasas

Most calls to the sheriff's station were about the use of illegal fireworks.

No arrests were made in Calabasas on the Fourth of July and most calls made to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station were about illegal fireworks.

Five phone calls were made to the station between 2 p.m. and midnight reporting illegal fireworks being lighted up, but all suspects dispersed before the arrival of deputies, said Sgt. Steven Bullard.

A shooting was reported at 9:38 p.m., but deputies said the noise was most likely fireworks exploding instead, he said.

One possible drunk driver was spotted on Malibu Canyon Road at 12:38 a.m., but field units were unable to locate the car, Bullard said.

"Other than that, the day was fairly quiet as far as dispatched calls," he said.

Bullard added that deputies spent more time on the holiday in other towns within their jurisdiction.

"Most of our calls for service that day were closer to the coast with beach-related issues," Bullard said.
