Coffee with Carol

Once a month, the Chamber of Commerce president invites members to drop by her office to chat about business matters.

Carol Washburn, the president and CEO of the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce, holds a monthly "Coffee with Carol" in the hope that chamber members will stop by and discuss their needs and concerns more personally.

"I want to be able to have an open door to our chamber members so they can meet their CEO at the chambers and have a conversation about business," Washburn said. "We're here to listen to their highs and lows and see how the chamber might support them."

This is especially helpful for newcomers because they can learn about how the chamber works and about how its programs and resources can help them achieve their goals, she said.

"Really it's about making wonderful connections, and in this economy it can really make a difference," Washburn said.

Speaking of the recession, Washburn said she's glad to see local businesses getting creative and being proactive by using social media, music and extended happy hours to draw customers.

Becoming a chamber member can benefit local business owners because of the partnerships the organization has with the city, she said.

In August, the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the Cal Cap, a bowling competition for members and a chance to network with one another.
