The Commons Plans Massive Expansion With 119 Apartments
Rick Caruso wants to give The Commons a significant makeover by turning it into a mixed-use development.

CALABASAS, CA — Significant changes could be coming to The Commons, as developer Rick Caruso goes through the city permitting process with a plan to add new stores, restaurants and up to 119 apartments at the shopping center.
The plans call for the demolition of the Regency movie theater to make way for 2,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and five levels of apartments above, according to documents submitted to the city.
Also planned are the construction of four new buildings in The Commons' parking lot, which would house shops, restaurants and apartments.
Twelve of the 119 total apartments would be designated as affordable housing. IN total, the project seeks to expand The Commons by 210,921 square feet of floor area.
Caruso recently began seeking city approvals, the project is due to be vetted in public meetings in the coming months. Most recently, the Development Review Committee went over the proposal on Tuesday.
