Fred Gaines Visits Israel

Calabasas Mayor pro Tem Fred Gaines met Tuesday in Israel with the Mayor of Calabasas sister city Mevasseret Zion. 

Gaines met with Mayor Arie Shamam for an hour in the Mayor's Office at Mevasseret Zion Town Hall, exchanged gifts, and then toured the local high school, library, parks and Castel National Monument. 

The two mayors discussed issues of mutual concern including increasing city revenues, business attraction, environmental "green" programs, support for local schools and disaster preparedness. 

They also agreed to work together on future cultural and educational exchange programs. Gaines was joined by his wife, Las Virgenes Unified Board Member Jill Gaines. 

Gaines will provide a detailed report on the results of the meeting at a future City Council meeting. 

Mevasseret Zion is a suburb of Jerusalem.
