Higher Membership Rates Coming to Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center

Adults, seniors and families will have to pay 10 percent more for their monthly memberships beginning in September.

Come Sept. 1, users of the facilities at the will have to pay more for their monthly memberships.

The on Wednesday unanimously approved a 10 percent increase for memberships across the board to help pay for future improvements and repairs at the center.

The center is fully funded by the $3.34 million generated from its 6,345 members, according to a staff report. The city does not pay for the facility out of its own general fund.

Those who use the tennis courts will see an average increase of $6.80 in their monthly memberships, while fitness facility users will experience a $4 hike, according to a staff report.

Adults will soon have to pay $42 a month for a health membership and $70 for a tennis membership, the report read. Families will be paying $70 per month for a health membership and $98 for a tennis membership.

The last rate hike at the center occurred in 2007, when memberships were raised by 5 percent. The extra revenue helped complete many improvements, such as resurfaced tennis courts and the installation of new pool heaters.

Community Services Director Jeff Rubin said the latest rate increase would help pay for more improvements and unforeseen repairs the 43-year-old facility may need.

No community members or council members expressed opposition when the item was brought up for a vote.

"I think that people expect a level of service [at the tennis and swim center] that we need to maintain," said Mayor Pro Tem Mary Sue Maurer.

The new membership rates go into effect on Sept. 1.
