Huddy, Angard Come Up Short At CIF Northern Golf Regional
The Calabasas sophomore and Viewpoint freshman both make eagles but miss the cut to advance to the Southern Section championship.
Calabasas High sophomore Walker Huddy birdied two of his last three holes in the CIF Northern Individual Regional on the Vineyard Course at River Ridge in Oxnard on Monday, but it wasn't enough to advance to the next round of golf playoffs.
Huddy shot a 4-over par, 76, and missed the cut for the Southern Section championship by two strokes. He had an eagle on the fifth hole, and birdies on the 17th and first holes, but his six bogeys were too much to overcome.
"I was missing a lot of greens," Huddy said. "And I wasn't getting up and down."

Alex Angard, a freshman at Viewpoint, shot 6-over par, 78, and missed the cut by four strokes. He also eagled the fifth hole and was 2-under par after five holes. But he said his round went downhill after that. He went 6-over par through the next five holes and was 4-over par after 10 holes.
He started pulling his drives right, hitting out of bounds and leaving challenging approach shots through trees and over hazards.

"Every single drive was right," Angard said. "I hit like two fairways all day."
J.J. Holen of West Ranch won the Northern Individual Regional at 5-under par 67. He made seven birdies, four in a row at one point, and had two bogeys on a cold, overcast day in Oxnard.
He was one of nine players to shoot under par in the regional. Jon Poole of St. Bonaventure was second at 3-under par 69. Chris Doyle of Westlake finished third after winning a playoff. Four players tied for third with 2-under par 70s. Doyle won on the second playoff hole.
Huddy said the weather and course made for some favorable playing conditions.
"It was kind of cold," he said. "It was a good day to play. Usually this course is pretty windy."
Huddy started his round on the second hole. He made eagle on the fifth hole, a 502-yard, par 5. He said his drive ended up on the right side of the fairway about 220 yards away from the green. He hit a 5 wood to within 20 feet of the pin and made his putt for eagle.
He said his drives were all fading right and leaving him with some challenging approach shots.
"I was kind of leaving it out to the right," Huddy said. "I fixed it, unfortunately, too late in the round."
Angard said he had a chance for a second eagle, nearly missing a 15-foot putt that came up an inch short on the 15th hole.
"I think I had a good season," Angard said. "I know what I need to do to improve. I'm not that disappointed about not making it to the next round because I have three more years. I'm not worried that it's my last chance to make it."
The top 30 golfers advance to the CIF Southern Section Individual Championship at La Purisima in Lompoc on Monday.
