New Brush-Clearance Rules Will Be Discussed At Public Forum Tonight
Homeowners in very high fire risk zones have new state requirements for defensible space; you can learn more at a Calabasas meeting Friday.

CALABASAS, CA – Fire officials are holding a public forum in Calabasas Friday night to explain new, stricter brush-clearance requirements meant to protect homes from the risk of fire.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department will hold the forum Friday, March 10 at Founders Hall, 200 Civic Center Way, from 6 to 9 p.m. A video of the event will air at a later date on Calabasas CTV 3, Mayor David Shapiro wrote in his Friday letter to the city.
Because most of Calabasas – and its neighbors – are within a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, building owners are subjected to stricter requirements.

A new state law mandates homeowners remove “all flammable materials” from within five feet of any structure and the policy is enforceable through inspections from fire departments. The new law added some 60,000 parcels to LA County’s inspection list, according to the city.
